NATO especially top players like the US have always lead the Soviets/Russians in optics quality especially tech like NVD and thermal imaging and you can plop an active protection on 50mm ifv as easy as on armada or M1a2... I mean the mear idea MBTs are gonna go around radiating radar scans as they attack means they have already lost. It's like if trying to fight at night by covering your tank with flood lights, yeah the tank crew can maybe see better but not near so much better as it can be detected. T14's active protection is gonna give away it position and likely be used to guide and fuse a bunch of 50mm smart munitions likely fired indirect at range in a volume easly over whelming any active protection. Having a high caliber tank gun itself is a lot of weight being imposed on the platform that can afford little. 50mm will provide overmatch against most AFVs, having enough payload capacity for programmable fuze, as well as a decent staying power. ATGM while expensive and heavy on a per round basis, the launcher weighs little in the context of vehicle application. Advanced IIR guided, top attack missile should remain relatively hard to counter in the foreseeable future, and should provide a range advantage in the sense that ATGM Pk doesn't degrade as much base on distance. Should enhanced anti armor capability be required, kinetic energy missile will always be viable pathway, at a cost to multipurpose capability.

However I question the assumption that CAS won't be available. Just not from rotary wing or certain fixed wing platform catered to low threat environment. Combine that with indirect fire airborne can have a decent chance to seize and hold position against heavier conventional army.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03160135088231034555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3680821082869261047.post-80556215026797748382016-09-02T09:05:47.718-07:002016-09-02T09:05:47.718-07:00The 50 mm supershot doesn't follow the same pr...The 50 mm supershot doesn't follow the same principle of the 40 mm cased telescopic shell. The 50 mm supershot is just a normal catridge with no neck - it has a maximum diameter of 50 mm; the 40 mm CTA catridge however is embedded into the propellant charge, it has a diameter larger than 40 mm.

The 35 mm calibre is one of the most common calibres in the world. There are at least 36 countries that have operated or operate the 35 mm GDF anti-aircraft gun. The 35 mm calibre is also used for naval mounts and ground combat vehicles.m.m.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04128979980083950538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3680821082869261047.post-63557934100074269072016-09-02T09:01:44.575-07:002016-09-02T09:01:44.575-07:00Based on current information this seems likely. However a number of sources have reported that Russia wants to develop different armor packages for the T-14; there might be something with better turret armor.

Personally I wouldn't like to deal with a T-14 with a 50 mm gun or Javelin missiles. The T-14 will most likely have a big sensor advantages (better optics and radar detection of missiles). m.m.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04128979980083950538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3680821082869261047.post-73467705080842639692016-09-02T08:59:47.972-07:002016-09-02T08:59:47.972-07:00The BMPT Terminator is however based on the T-90 c...The BMPT Terminator is however based on the T-90 chassis (or T-72 chassis in case of the BMPT-72). It is heavily armored and cannot be air-dropped. TARDEC is looking for a light-weight, weakly armored vehicle instead. m.m.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04128979980083950538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3680821082869261047.post-48970508217184185102016-09-01T07:55:29.519-07:002016-09-01T07:55:29.519-07:00It seems that Tardec wants to build their own vers...It seems that Tardec wants to build their own version of the BMPT Terminator.Oolon Colluphidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02804852164483407897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3680821082869261047.post-11165413862976195202016-08-30T04:59:06.706-07:002016-08-30T04:59:06.706-07:00Ironically isn't the T-14 more vulnerable than...Ironically isn't the T-14 more vulnerable than any T-72 regarding the turret? Especially when considering the 35mm is a very unpopular caliber.
40mm provides a high degree of lethality, and the 50mm supershot only seems to exceed the performance in penetration. However the range of vehicles expected to be penetrated by this weapon, can also be penetrated by the 40mm.
How much penetration was cited for the 50mm supershot? 250mm at 1km?Mighty_Zukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06253016268815776129noreply@blogger.com
